Lisboa, 1984. Rita Maria iniciou os estudos musicais aos oito anos e aos catorze dedicou-se à aprendizagem do jazz. Estudou violino e canto lírico no Conservatório Nacional de Música de Lisboa, Jazz na Escola de Jazz do Barreiro, ESMAE / Porto e também na Berklee College of Music em Boston como aluna bolseira. Passou parte da sua vida adulta entre Portugal, Estados Unidos e Equador. A sua voz deambula entre a improvisação do Jazz e a nostalgia do Fado, o experimentalismo, a fusão com World Music e o Rock.

 

Ao longo de seu percurso artístico tem partilhado o palco com músicos como Mário Laginha, Carlos Bica, Filipe Raposo, Nuno Costa, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, André Fernandes, Albert Sanz, Afonso Pais, Mário Franco, Luís Figueiredo, José Eduardo, João Barradas, Sara Serpa, André Matos, Paula Sousa, Elias Meister, Ziv Ravitz, Cris Case, Yago Vázquez, Alex Alvear, Igor Icaza, María Tejada, Donald Régnier, entre outros. Já colaborou com as Orquestras OJM (Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos), OHCP (Orquestra do Hot Clube de Portugal) com John Hollenbeck e Perico Sambeat, BBJ (Big Band Júnior) e Orquestra Andina (Equador).

Participou em gravações com e para artistas como Elias Meister, Yeray Jiménez, Nuno Costa, João Firmino, Afonso Pais, Kiko Pereira, Luís Figueiredo, Amélia Muge, Rão Kyao, Lars Arens Band Larga, Dixie Gang, Sayuri Shimizu e Big Band Júnior.

 

Participou e gravou no projecto solista do músico e compositor equatoriano Igor Icaza e também com o grupo de Rock Equatoriano Sal y Mileto. Desde 2015 é cantora da banda Stockholm Lisboa Project (World music), tendo gravado o disco Janela em 2016. Lançou em Novembro de 2016 com o guitarrista e compositor Afonso Pais o disco Além das Horas pela ENJA Records. É cantora da banda Saga Cega, que lançou o seu álbum de estreia À Deriva em Abril de 2017.

 

Recebeu o Prémio de Artista do Ano, Prémios RTP/Festa do Jazz 2018.

Lança o álbum do projecto Círculo, em Janeiro de 2020: fruto do trabalho composicional colaborativo do trio composto por Rita Maria, Luís Figueiredo no piano, sintetizadores e percussão, o contrabaixista Mário Franco. Este trio dá origem à fundação da Editora RODA Music Independent Label que se estreia com Círculo e que durante o ano de 2023 completou 19 edições.

 

Ultimamente, tem desenvolvido o seu trabalho artístico com o pianista e compositor Filipe Raposo, tendo lançado o primeiro disco do duo em Agosto de de 2018 Live in Oslo. A dupla lançou os seus segundo e terceiro discos The Art of Song vol.1 - When Baroque meets Jazz e The Art of Song vol.2 - Between Sacred and Profan em 2020 e 2023, respectivamente.

A cantora integra também o trio colaborativo Quang Ny Lys com o guitarrista Mané Fernandes e o saxofonista João Mortágua, cuja primeira edição discográfica foi estreada em 2022.

Lisbon, 1984. Rita Maria started her musical studies at the age of eight and at the age of fourteen dedicated herself to learning jazz. She studied violin and lyric singing at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon, jazz at the Barreiro Jazz School, ESMAE / Porto and also at Berklee College of Music in Boston as a scholarship student. She has spent part of her adult life between Portugal, the United States and Ecuador. Her voice wanders between the improvisation of Jazz and the nostalgia of Fado, experimentalism, fusion with World Music and Rock.

She has participated and recorded in the solo project of Ecuadorian musician and composer Igor Icaza and also with the Ecuadorian rock group Sal y Mileto. Since 2015 she has been a singer with the band Stockholm Lisboa Project (World music), having recorded the disc Janela in 2016. In November 2016 she released the album Além das Horas with guitarist and composer Afonso Pais on ENJA Records. She is the singer of the band Saga Cega, which released its debut album À Deriva in April 2017.

 

She received the Artist of the Year Award at the RTP/Festa do Jazz Awards 2018.

She released the album Círculo, in January 2020: the result of the collaborative compositional work of the trio made up of Rita Maria, Luís Figueiredo on piano, synthesisers and percussion, and bassist Mário Franco. This trio gave rise to the founding of the RODA Music Independent Label, which debuted with Círculo and completed 19 editions in 2023.

 

Lately, she has been working alongside the pianist and composer Filipe Raposo, having released the duo's first album in August 2018 Live in Oslo. The duo released their second and third discs The Art of Song vol.1 - When Baroque meets Jazz and The Art of Song vol.2 - Between Sacred and Profan in 2020 and 2023, respectively.

The singer is also part of the collaborative trio Quang Ny Lys, with guitarist Mané Fernandes and saxophonist João Mortágua, whose first album was released in 2022.
